A foreign tale! Four of us on holiday in Tenerife. Two decided to go on a log hard walk, took the hire car to a remote village and parked it. The walk of several miles was over rugged cliffs ending at a small deserted sandy beach. The hike had taken much longer than expected and the two realised they would not be able to make it back before dark. Luckily for them a boat pulled in to the beach but couldn’t help as it was full up but said his brother would be along shortly. Eventually they were picked up and taken back to the nearby port. They arrived back at the apartment somewhat later than expected with the greeting “we have lost the car” It was, of course, still parked at the remote mountain village! The following day they tried to get a bus to the village only to find that nearest stop was over 4 miles away. After a long and tiring walk over treacherous mountain roads they finally arrived back at the village. To their great relief the car was still parked and ok. The moral of this story?? If you come across two German hikers who invite you to join them for a walk, think hard, think twice and then politely decline the offer!!!!!!!
A cautionary tale! We were in a secluded villa in St Lucia a Christmas or so ago. One night, while we slept, thieves cut through a mesh in our bedroom, came in and stole most of our belongings. These included a computer, wallets, passports and other personal items, wedding and engagement rings etc. We were very lucky as we did not wake up. We were told by the police that thieves often carried knock out sprays to use if they were disturbed. The chaos that followed meant visits to the Police and the consulate. We also had to arrange the cancelling of our credit cards and other documents. We managed to get through immigration on the way home with a letter from the Consul. It took several months to sort out the insurance claim to our satisfaction. The moral of this story?? It CAN happen to you. Make sure you have good travel insurance and take out credit card insurance. (They took over and sorted everything out for us).
